RESULTS
Chicago, Ill.- The Wheaton men's and women's swim teams opened their 2012-13 season with a dual meet at the University of Chicago on Saturday. Chicago won the women's meet 166-65 and the men's meet 192-47.
The Wheaton women claimed a pair of event victories, both belonging to freshman
Kirsty Nitz. Nitz won the 200-yard individual medley by five seconds with a time of 2:08.49 and had a sound victory in the 200-yard backstroke as well finishing in 2:06.93.
Carlie Herich was third in the 200-yard backstroke finishing at 2:12.48. Herich also was second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:47.01.
Ali Offerdahl and
Katie Cialkowski took second and third respectively in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:00.12 and 2:01.47.
Sarah Pankratz registred a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.97.
Wheaton's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Herich, Pankratz,
Sarah Coley and
Amanda MacLurg finished in second with a time of 3:45.43
On the men's side, Wheaton won only one event with
Korey Clement (PICTURED RIGHT) winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:54.24. Clement also took second in the 200-yard free, finishing in 1:47.89
Senior
Carl Sveen took third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.55.
Wills Francis also took third in the 50-yard freestyle finishing at 22.44.
Freshman
Jon Lait made his collegiate debut to the tune of a third place finish in the 200IM with a time of 2:04.11. Freshman
Nick Pulgine also earned a third in his debut, finishing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.54.
