#23-Thunder men's soccer team shuts out Aurora, 3-0

The Wheaton men's soccer team earned a non-conference win at Aurora University on Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 win against the Spartans. Wheaton, ranked 23rd in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25, improves to 11-3-2 on the year. The Thunder will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday for a match with the CCIW-leading Titans at 7 PM.

Wheaton and Aurora played to a 0-0 tie for the first half of today's match. Senior Kevin Skinker gave the Thunder a 1-0 advantage in the 53rd minute when he maneuvered around two defenders and put the ball into the net at the far post. Freshman Marshall Hollingsworth extended Wheaton's lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute when he angled the ball past Aurora goalkeeper Ethan Cashen and into the net for his sixth goal of the year. Chad Musgraves accounted for Wheaton's 3-0 win when he floated the ball into net over the goalkeeper at the 87:37 mark of the contest.

Wheaton out-shot the Spartans 18-9 in the match, with the Thunder holding an 11-0 advantage in shots on goal. Wheaton was awarded eight corner kicks in the match, Aurora received two. Wheaton goalkeeper Derek Babb made his second start of the season, playing all 90 minutes with no goals allowed and no saves. Cashen played 60 minutes in the Spartans' net, making seven saves, with two goals allowed. Nick Sloan replaced Cashen for the final 30 minutes of the match, making one save and allowing one goal.
