Thunder volleyball team goes 3-1 to take second place at Wheaton Invitational

The Wheaton College volleyball team went 3-1 over the weekend to finish in second place as hosts of the Wheaton Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Thunder run its record to 11-6 on the season.

The All-Tournament Team that was selected included Wheaton's Megan McKinley (PICTURED ABOVE) and Jenna McCallister (PICTURED RIGHT); St. Norbert College's Danielle Remy and Catherine Guido; Dominican University's Jacy Lawrence and Kellie Van Voorhis; and North Central College's Jenae Harner.

Wheaton opened Friday's action with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20) victory against Dominican University. Freshman Megan McKinley led the Thunder with 17 kills and three total blocks in the win. Emily Buyse and Lindsay Stein each added eight kills and three total blocks. Jenna McCallister distributed 38 assists, while Cassie Murphy recorded 19 digs and Kaitlyn Graham Novosad added 18 digs.

The Thunder closed out Friday evening's action with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-17) victory against Purdue-North Central. Against Purdue-North Central, McKinley recorded nine kills, while Buyse and Murphy each had six kills apiece. Buyse made six total blocks and McCallister assisted on three blocks. McKinley tallied three service aces and McCallister added 32 assists. Murphy registered 12 digs and Graham Novosad tallied 10 digs.

On Saturday morning, Wheaton defeated Concordia University Chicago by a 3-1 margin (25-9, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19). McKinley paced the offense with 22 kills while Hannah Velling contributed nine kills of her own. Buyse collected five total blocks. McCallister tallied 43 assists.

The Thunder wrapped up the invite with a 3-2 loss to St. Norbert (22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13). The kill leaders were McKinley with 24 and Velling with 11. Meghan Grant and Buyse totaled four blocks each. McCallister ended up with 56 assists.
