Thunder volleyball team opens CCIW play with a 3-0 win against Augustana

The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team opened its conference schedule at home on Tuesday night by earning a 3-0 decision against Augustana. Wheaton took the first two sets by identical scores of 25-17 and closed out the match by winning the third and decisive set 25-18. 

Tonight's victory was the fourth-straight win for the Thunder, as the team has won seven of its last eight matches. Wheaton is now 7-3 on the year, with a 1-0 record in conference play. Augustana is 5-6 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Sophomore Emily Buyse led the Thunder with a team-high nine kills against the Vikings and seven total blocks. Freshman Megan McKinley tallied eight kills, with four total blocks and a team-best 14 service receptions. Senior setter Jenna McCallister recorded 25 assists. Fellow senior Kaitlyn Graham Novosad had a team-best 20 digs and Sarah McWilliams added 14 digs.

The Thunder will return to action on Saturday when it hosts the Thunder Four-Team Tournament on Saturday in King Arena. Wheaton will entertain Monmouth College (Ill.) at 10 AM and the Thunder will face Bethel University (Minn.) at 12:30 PM.
