Atlanta, Ga. - The Thunder volleyball team went 3-1 over the weeked at the two-day Doc Partin Classic hosted by Emory University. Wheaton ran its season record to 6-3 as setter
Jenna McCallister was named to the All-Tournament team.
Wheaton opened play on Friday with a 3-1 victory against Birmingham-Southern College with scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24.
Emily Buyse was the leading hitter for the Thunder with 11 kills and no errors to go with four block assists defensively.
Cassie Murphy (PICTURED) added 10 kills and 14 digs.
Kaitlyn Graham Novosad led the defensive effort with 28 digs. McCallister tallied 42 assists along with 22 digs.
The Thunder then faced the host Eagles of Emory, ranked fourth in Division III this week, in the second match of the day. Emory topped Wheaton 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-17. Novosad collected 16 digs, McCallister had 16 assists and Buyse scored six kills.
The Thunder played two more matches in Saturday's action of the tournament. Wheaton opened Saturday's play with a 3-0 victory against #16-ranked Trinity University (Texas) by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23. Newcomer
Megan McKinley totaled nine kills along with 10 digs and three blocks. Murphy put up eight kills, 13 digs and six total blocks. Buyse tallied eight kills while McCallister recorded 27 assists and 16 blocks. Novosad led the Thunder with 21 digs.
The Thunder closed out its participation in the tournament with a 3-1 victory against Faulkner. Faulkner won the first game 25-21, but Wheaton rallied to win the final three games by scores of 25-11, 29-27 and 25-18. McKinley was the offensive catalyst again with 15 kills to go with 17 digs and four blocks. Buyse was second with 13 kills. McCallister topped off 40 assists with 24 digs. Murphy collected seven kills and 19 digs.
