Bloomington, Ill. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team came away with a 5-4 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University and lost to Carthage College 5-1 at the CCIW Championship on Friday.

The No. 4-seed Thunder are now to 9-11 on the season, and will next play in the third-place match at 9 AM on Saturday against Augustana College or Elmhurst College.

Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan previously met on April 14, when the Thunder also won by a 5-4 margin. On Friday, the two teams played very close throughout as four singles matches went to three sets. While both sides split the six singles matches, Wheaton came away with two of the three doubles points.

Taylor Johnson, Joel Parrish and Miles Greenwald all emerged victorious at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 in singles play. The doubles tandem of Johnson and Stephan Rauh were winners at No. 2, while Parrish and David Buursma notched a win at No. 3 doubles.

In the second match of the day, Carthage took two of the three doubles matches and then won the next three singles matches to clinch the victory. Parrish and Buursma earned the lone Wheaton win at No. 3 doubles.
