Thunder volleyball team takes a 3-1 victory at North Central

Naperville, Ill. - The Wheaton volleyball team returned to conference play on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory at North Central College. Wheaton won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-18. The Cardinals won the third set 25-21 and the Thunder closed out the victory with a 25-13 victory in the fourth set. Wheaton will host University of Chicago on Friday night at 5 PM in non-conference match.

North Central led Wheaton 14-10 in the first set when the Thunder went on to out-score the Cardinals 10-3 to take a 20-17 lead, en route to the 25-21 win. The second set was tied at 6-6, when the Thunder out-scored the Cardinals 7-2 to take a 13-8 lead in the set. Wheaton never trailed in the set after that point. Wheaton led the third set 16-12, when the Cardinals rallied to take a 22-18 lead on the hosts' way to winning the set 25-21. Wheaton never trailed in the decisive fourth set on the way to its 25-13 victory.

Freshman Megan McKinley led the Thunder with a team-high 14 kills and Hannah Velling added nine kills. Senior setter Jenna McCallister had 45 assists and Kaitlyn Graham Novosad collected four service aces. Cassie Murphy led the Thunder with 22 digs and sophomore Emily Buyse recorded three total blocks.
