Naperville, Ill. - The Thunder volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday at Benedictine University's "Eagle Classic". The tournament was held at North Central's Merner Fieldhouse, due to facility issues at Benedictine's Dan and Ada Rice Center. Thunder senior
Jenna McCallister earned All-Tournament honors for her performance.
Wheaton defeated Lakeland 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-11) to open Saturday's play. Freshman
Megan McKinley led the Thunder with 11 kills and added nine digs.
Emily Buyse tallied eight kills, with five total blocks and
Cassie Murphy had seven kills. McCallister contributed 32 assists, with 12 digs and fellow senior
Kaitlyn Graham Novosad had a team-high 14 digs.
Lindsay Stein recorded five total blocks in the win.
The Thunder bested Benedictine 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) in the second match of the afternoon. McKinley recorded 11 kils, with eight digs. Buyse tallied eight kills and Novosad had a team-best 22 digs. McCallister had 24 assists, with 13 digs and Stein added six total blocks.
Wheaton (21-12) will host North Central at 7 PM on Tuesday night in a CCIW Tournament Play-In Game. The winner of Tuesday's match will earn a berth into the 2011 CCIW Volleyball Tournament at the highest seed on Nov. 4-5.
