Thunder women's basketball team loses at Elmhurst College 74-60

Elmhurst, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's basketball team lost a 74-60 decision at Elmhurst College on Saturday afternoon, as the Thunder dropped its second consecutive league game on the road. Wheaton will return home on Wednesday for a 6 PM tipoff in King Arena with Millikin University.

Elmhurst broke a 26-26 tie with 6:45 remaining in the first half, with a 13-5 run to close out the half. The Bluejay run allowed the hosts to hold a 39-31 lead at halftime.  Elmhurst continued to lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 17 points at one point.

Sophomore Laura Karsten led the Thunder with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Brooke Olson added 12 points, with six assists and four steals. Senior Annie Bowen tallied nine points, while Kelly Brooks scored eight points off of the Thunder bench, adding four rebounds and three steals. Junior Lindsey Brenneman scored seven points, with three assists.

Meghan Merklein led Elmhurst with a game-high 18 points. Megan Ney scored 16 points, with seven rebounds. Kelsey Monroe registered 14 points and six rebounds for the hosts.

Wheaton shot a 32.2% (19-59) field goal percentage, with 30.8% (4-13) from three-point range and 69.2% (18-26) at the free throw line. The Bluejays shot 45.9% (28-61) from the field, with 47.1% (8-17) from behind three-point arc and 90.9% (10-11) at the free throw line. Elmhurst out-rebounded the Thunder 44-34, as each team collected 12 offensive boards.
