The Wheaton men's basketball team will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin this weekend for the the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament Friday and Saturday (Feb. 26-27), hosted by Carthage College. The first semifinal contest will tipoff at 5 PM when second-seeded Wheaton faces #3-seed Illinois Wesleyan. Friday's second semifinal will tipoff at 7:30 PM and will feature top-seeded Carthage against fourth-seeded Augustana.
The Championship Game of the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament will be played at 7:30 PM on Saturday between Friday's Semifinal victors, with the tournament champion earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Tickets for the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament will be available only at the entrance to Carthage's Tarble Arena. Admission for the event is $6 for adults; children 12-and-under will be admitted for free and students from CCIW-member schools will be admitted for free with a valid college ID. As a CCIW Championship event CCIW passes and other institutional passes will not be accepted.
This year marks the fourth time Wheaton has participated in CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament, which began in 2006. The Thunder has compiled a 2-2 all-time record in the tournament, winning the 2009 CCIW Tournament Championship, hosted in Wheaton's King Arena. Wheaton holds six team CCIW Tournament records and Wheaton players also maintain six of the tournament's individual records.
Augustana has won two CCIW Championships (2007 and 2008), with a 4-2 all-time record in the tournament. Wheaton is 2-2 in the tournament with the 2009 title to its credit. North Central has a 2-2 record in the four-year history of the tournament, winning the inaugural title in 2006. Illinois Wesleyan has compiled a 2-2 record in the tournament and Elmhurst is 2-4 all-time at the event. Carthage will be making its first-ever appearance in the tournament this weekend, while Millikin and North Park have never qualified for the event.
