Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team dropped an 84-66 decision to Millikin on Tuesday night in King Arena. It was the final home game of the regular season for the Thunder, as the team honored senior
Sarah Jones prior to the tipoff for tonight's “Senior Night” activities.
Wheaton is now 13-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The Thunder will close out the regular season on Saturday night in a 5 PM tipoff at Elmhurst College. Millikin is now 15-9 overall and 9-4 in conference action.
Millikin led 44-40 at halftime of tonight's contest. The Big Blue put together a 14-5 scoring run over the first five minutes of the second half to expand the guests' lead to 60-45 with 15 minutes left in regulation. Millikin's lead bulged to as much as 22 points late in the second half, en route to the 84-64 victory.
Sophomore
Elisabeth Potts led the Thunder with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Jones scored 13 points, with eight rebounds and three assists in her final home game. Junior
Lisa Ballenger scored nine points with four rebounds off the Thunder bench. Junior
Annie Bowen scored six points, with six rebounds.
Elise Wildman scored 26 points, with 12 rebounds to lead Millikin. Julia Robert added 19 points and Cecily Aldridge tallied 18 points, with eight rebounds for the Big Blue.
Wheaton shot 30.9% (21-68) from the field, with 27.8% (5-18) from three-point range and 58.6% (17-29) at the free throw line. Millikin shot a 51.9% (28-54) field goal percentage with 41.2% (7-17) from three-point range and 77.8% (21-27) at the free throw line. Millikin out-rebounded the Thunder 46-39, with the Thunder holding a 17-8 edge on the offensive glass.
