Elmhurst, Ill. - The Thunder volleyball team dropped a conference match in 3-0 loss at Elmhurst College on Tuesday night. Elmhurst was a 25-17 winner in the first set and the Bluejays earned an 18-25 victory in the second set. The Bluejays secured the victory by out-lasting the Thunder in the third set, 28-26.
Sophomore
Hannah Velling led the Thunder with nine kills, while
Cassie Murphy and
Emily Buyse each recorded five kills.
Emily Hamilton contributed 14 digs, while
Jenna McCallister and Murphy each tallied 11 digs. Buyse, McCallister and
Hannah Graber each made three total blocks and McCallister distributed a team-high 24 assists in the match.
Wheaton is now 12-14 on the season and 2-4 in CCIW play. Elmhurst improves to 17-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Thunder will return to action on Friday and Saturday with four matches at the
Elmhurst Invitational. On Friday at 4 PM Wheaton will face UW-Platteville followed by a match against Cornell College (Iowa) at 6 PM. On Saturday the Thunder will take on Central College at 10 AM and University of Chicago at noon.
