The Thunder volleyball team falls to #8-Carthage, 3-1

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Wheaton volleyball team lost to Carthage College 3-1 on Friday evening inside Wheaton's King Arena.

Wheaton won the first set 26-24. Wheaton jumped out to a 15-13 lead in the second, set, however, the Lady Reds rallied to out-score the Thunder 12-1 as the guests won the second set 25-16. Carthage won the third set 25-15 and closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

Sophomore Hannah Velling led Wheaton with 11 kills, while Cassie Murphy, Jenna McCallister and Emily Buyse each recorded eight kills. McCallister led the Thunder with 32 assists, Murphy added a team-high 19 digs and Buyse registered a team-best five total blocks. Kaitlyn Graham and Ashlie Pace each recorded 17 digs.

Wheaton is now 11-8 on the season, with a 1-2 mark in CCIW play. The Thunder will return to action on Tuesday, October 5 at Millikin University. Carthage, ranked eighth in this week's AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Top-25, is now 15-5 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW.
