Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's basketball team lost 81-73 to Elmhurst College on Saturday.
The Bluejays improve to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW. The Thunder fall to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Elmhurst got up six points early, but Wheaton answered with a 16-3 run to take a 24-17 lead late in the first half. The Bluejays chipped away and made it a one-point game at the half, 32-31.
Elmhurst's offense got rolling in the second half, led by 33 points from Lyndsie Long. Rebounds also went the visitor's way in the game with a 46-33 advantage on the glass. Wheaton cut the lead to 65-63 in the final five minutes, but couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
Lindsey Brenneman led the Thunder offense with 23 points while
Annie Bowen added 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Wheaton shot 23 of 59 (39 percent) from the field, 3 of 13 (23 percent) from three-point range and 24 of 32 (75 percent) from the free throw line.
Elmhurst shot 27 of 63 (43 percent) from the field, 3 of 8 (37 percent) from three-point range and 24 of 31 (77 percent) from the charity stripe.
Wheaton resumes its conference schedule with a 7:30 PM game on Tuesday at Millikin University.
