Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's basketball team lost to
top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan 94-57 on Tuesday night in King Arena. Illinois Wesleyan remains undefeated with the victory at 16-0 on the year and 5-0 in CCIW play. Wheaton is now 9-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Thunder will host Elmhurst on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
Illinois Wesleyan led at halftime of tonight's game, 45-35. The Titans out-scored Wheaton 17-2 over the first 4:30 minutes of the second half to strengthen their lead at 62-37 with 15:30 left in regulation and give the Titans firm control of the contest.
Sophomore
Lindsey Brenneman led Wheaton with 14 points and four assists. Junior
Annie Bowen added 12 points, on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, with five rebounds. Freshman
Jennifer Lee contributed seven points for the hosts.
Kelly Brooks scored six points, with nine rebounds. Senior
Sarah Jones scored six points, with five rebounds and five assists.
Hope Schulte led the Titans with 15 points and four rebounds. Nikki Preston scored 12 points, Stacey Arlis scored 11 points and Sarah Cotner added 12 points. Christina Solari grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, with 10 assists and four steals.
Wheaton shot a 35.1% (20-57) field goal percentage, with 27.3% (3-11) from three-point range and 77.8% (14-18) at the free throw line. The Titans shot 52.3% (34-65) from the floor, with 52.4% (11-21) from behind the three-point arc and 71.4% (15-21) at the free throw line. Illinois Wesleyan out-rebounded the Thunder 42-31, with a 15-13 edge on the offensive glass.
