Women's basketball rallies to defeat North Park 58-57

Chicago, Ill. - The Thunder women's basketball team rallied to defeat North Park 58-57 on Saturday in Chicago.

The two teams struggled through a sluggish first half as North Park led 24-14 at halftime. North Park led 41-31 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Wheaton used defensive pressure to put together an 18-3 scoring run to take a 49-44 lead with four minutes remaining in the game. Wheaton never relinquished its lead after that point. A three-pointer by North Park with two seconds remaining in the game cut the Thunder advantage to one point, however, the Vikings could not get any closer.

Elisabeth Potts led the Thunder with 11 points and nine rebounds. Darcy Cornell was credited with 10 points and Lindsey Brenneman scored nine points. Annie Bowen scored eight points. Sarah Jones collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Dana Christensen scored 14 points, with seven rebounds to lead North Park. Lyndsey Thompson scored 13 points with six rebounds.

Wheaton shot 28.6% (18-63) from the field, with 31.3% (5-15) from three-point range and 70.8% (17-24) from three-point range. North Park posted a 34.9% (22-63) field goal percentage, with 33.3% (4-12) from three-point range and 56.3% (9-16) from behind the three-point arc. North Park out-rebounded the Thunder 46-44, with a 17-15 edge on the offensive glass.

Wheaton will return to action on Tuesday night when top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan visits King Arena for a 7:30 PM tipoff. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on WETN-TV and WETN radio, with streaming video online at www.wetn.org.
