COMPLETE TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder volleyball team went 1-3 and took sixth place at the two-day Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.
Wheaton College is now 9-7 overall on the season. Setter
Jenna McCallister was one of seven players who was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Cornell College (Iowa) was the nine-team invitational champion with a perfect 4-0 record. Cornell won via tiebreakers over University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and North Central College, who finished second and third with 4-0 records. University of Chicago went 2-2 to take fourth, Lakeland College finished fifth (2-2), Wheaton was sixth (1-3), Benedictine University was seventh (1-3), Edgewood College was eighth (0-4) and Rockford College was ninth (0-4).
Saturday's first match saw Wheaton shutout Edgewood 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-21).
Hannah Velling led the squad with 11 kills while
Sarah McWilliams tallied 10 kills. McCallister compiled 31 assists,
Ashlie Pace collected 23 digs and
Cassie Murphy had 18 digs.
In the final match of the invite, UW-Eau Claire beat the Thunder 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-22). McWilliams led the offensive attack with 13 kills with Velling adding nine kills. McCallister passed out 27 assists with three service aces.
Paige Narr made four blocks and Pace tallied 19 digs.
In Friday's first match, Cornell defeated Wheaton, 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22) in the tournament's first round. McCallister and McWilliams each had 11 kills, and Velling added 10 kills. McCallister distributed 20 assists, with 19 digs and
Ashlie Pace had 25 digs.
Lakeland College rallied to defeat Wheaton, 3-2 (19-25, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12) in Wheaton's final Friday match. McWilliams led the Thunder with 13 kills and Velling added nine kills for Wheaton. Setter McCallister had 31 assists and 19 digs, with five total blocks.
Ashlie Pace added a team-high 26 digs.
The Thunder continue their season on Tuesday with a 7:00 PM conference home match against Augustana College.
