Men's soccer defeats Aurora 2-1 late in the second overtime

Aurora, Ill.
– The Wheaton men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory in two overtimes on Friday afternoon at Aurora University. Wheaton, ranked 23rd in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25, has now won its last five matches. The Thunder improves to 7-2 overall, while Aurora is 4-3-1. Wheaton will travel to North Central next Wednesday night for a conference tilt with the Cardinals.

Aurora took a 1-0 lead 34:38 into the match when Christian Foote scored an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, the Thunder tied the match at 1-1 thanks the third goal of the year by sophomore Drew Golz, which was assisted by freshman Connor Rice. Following a scoreless second half, the two teams went to overtime. Aurora took the lone shot of the first overtime. Wheaton asserted pressure on the Spartans in the second overtime and it paid off with less than one minute left in the game. With 48-seconds remaining in the second overtime, freshman Jason Lollar scored to give Wheaton the win.

Wheaton out-shot Aurora 12-8 in the match, as the Thunder held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Seager saw his first collegiate action, playing 64:12 in the Thunder net, as made four saves and allowed one goal. Senior Micah Lamb played 45 minutes, with no shots on goal against him. Aurora netminder Kevin Soderstrom made five saves and allowed two goals in 109:12.
