Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team, ranked 14th in Division III by
d3hoops.com, was an 85-62 victor at home against North Park University (8-14/0-11) on Saturday night. Wheaton jumped out to a 17-4 lead over the first eight minutes of tonight's game and remained in control throughout as the Thunder held a 21-point lead at halftime with a 42-21 advantage. The hosts' largest lead of the game was a 25-point bulge in the final minute of the contest. Wheaton has won its last 12 meetings with Vikings.
Senior All-American
Kent Raymond led the Thunder with 21 points, three assists and three steals. Freshman guard
Jeremy Pflederer scored a career-high 20 points off the Wheaton bench as he sank six three-pointers, on 6-of-8 shooting from behind the arc. Senior center
Andy Wiele scored 12 points, with eight rebounds. Sophomore
Andrew Jahns scored 11 points, with three assists. Forward
Jake Carwell distributed a game-high five assists and freshman forward
Tim McCrary collected a game-high nine rebounds, including four offensive boards.
Three players led North Park in scoring as
Roshawn Russell,
Nick Williams and
Emmanuel Crosby each tallied 12 points for the Vikings.
DJ Cooper scored 11 points and Williams grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Wheaton shot 53.1% (32-60) from the field, with 59.1% (13-22) from the three-point range as Wheaton sank a season-high 13 three-pointers. The hosts shot 66.7% (8-12) at the free throw line. North Park recorded a 41.7% (20-48) field goal percentage, with 27.3% (3-11) from three-point range and 65.5% (19-29) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 35-31, with a 14-13 edge for North Park on the offensive glass.
Wheaton is now 18-3 on the season, with a 7-3 record in CCIW play. Wheaton is tied with Elmhurst atop the
CCIW standings with Elmhurst, as both teams hold identical 7-3 conference records, following Millikin's 74-64 victory against Elmhurst on Saturday night. The Thunder will travel to Elmhurst on Wednesday night in a battle for first place at R.A. Faganel Hall that will tipoff at 7:30 PM.
