Bloomington, Ill. – The
top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team (22-0/12-0 CCIW) remained undefeated on the year with a 101-57 win against Wheaton on Saturday afternoon. Today's win secured the CCIW Championship for the Titans and the top seed in the upcoming CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament.
Wheaton is now 13-9 overall and 8-3 in CCIW action. The Thunder will host Millikin on Tuesday night in a key conference matchup against Millikin Tipoff for Tuesday's game is 7:30 PM, with activities for the team's Think Pink/Pink Zone evening beginning at 7 PM.
Illinois Wesleyan led the Thunder by five points at 16-11 with 12:52 remaining in the first half when the Titans put together a 14-3 run over a span of 3:10 to take a 30-14 lead with 9:42 left before halftime. The Titans held a 48-27 lead at halftime en route to convincing victory.
Senior
Kathleen Fidelia led the Thunder with 18 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field and six assists. Sophomore
Annie Bowen scored 13 points, with four rebounds.
Whitney Edgecombe scored eight points and
Jamie Jones contributed six points with five rebounds.
Stacey Arliss led the Titans with a team-high 16 points off of the hosts' bench. Christina Solari scored 15 points, with nine rebounds and four assists. Mallory Heydorn scored 14 points, with eight assists and Kylie Castans scored 13 points, with five rebounds.
Wheaton shot 42% (21-50) from the field, with 16.7% (2-12) from three-point range and 72.2% (13-18) at the free throw line. The Titans posted a 56,7% (38-67) field goal percentage, with 40.7% (11-27) from behind the three-point arc and 73.7% (14-19) at the free throw line. Illinois Wesleyan out-rebounded the guests 40-14, with a 14-7 edge on the offensive glass.
