Wheaton, Ill. – Hope College topped the sixth-ranked Wheaton men's basketball team 77-52 on Friday night in the CCIW/MIAA Classic. Wheaton will play Calvin College at 1 PM (EST) on Saturday in the second and final day of the tournament. Calvin defeated Carthage 72-69 in tonight's first game at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Flying Dutchmen led the Thunder 36-20 at halftime. Hope led Wheaton 15-8 with 9:33 remaining in the first half when the guests put together a 17-5 over a span of about 4:50 to give the hosts a 32-13 lead with 4:40 left before the halftime intermission. Hope led by as many as 26 points in the second half to secure the victory.

Tim McCrary was Wheaton's leading scorer with 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
Spencer Schultze came off the bench to contribute 12 points and five rebounds. Senior captain
Ben Panner scored 12 points and fellow senior captain
Jake Carwell added six points, with three rebounds and three steals.
Will Bowser led Hope with 15 points and six rebounds. Jared Mysliwiec scored 13 points, with three three-pointers and three assists.
Wheaton recorded a 34.6% (18-52) field goal percentage, with 27.3% (3-11) from three-point range and 50% (13-26) at the free throw line. Hope shot 54.7% (29-53), from the floor, with 69.2% (9-13) from behind the three-point arc and 66.7% (10-15) at the free throw line. Hope out-rebounded the Thunder 45-27, with a 9-7 edge on the offensive glass.
