Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball team succumbed to a strong University of Chicago rally on Wednesday night in King Arena as the Maroons defeated Wheaton, 3-2. Wheaton won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17. Chicago's first victory was a 25-21 win in the third set and the Maroons closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in set four and a 15-9 win the decisive fifth set.
Freshman
Hannah Velling led Wheaton with 12 kills and she added two solo blocks.
Sarah McWilliams tallied 11 kills. Senior
Jamie Knoll was honored as a part of Senior Night festivities before the match, Wheaton's final home contest of the year. Knoll collected seven kills, with three total blocks. Setter
Jenna McCallister distributed 38 assists, with 16 digs.
Wheaton will participate in the
Benedictine University Eagle Classic this Friday and Saturday. The tournament has been moved from the Benedictine campus and will be played at Merner Fieldhouse on the campus of North Central College, due to construction at Benedictine's Dan and Ada Rice Center. Next Tuesday night Wheaton will participate in play-in match for the CCIW Tournament. Fifth-seeded Wheaton will travel to fourth-seeded Elmhurst for the right to participate in the CCIW Tournament on November 6-7 at the highest remaining seed.
