Men's soccer extends win streak with 2-1 over Wisconsin-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis.
- The Wheaton College men's soccer team won its seventh-straight match with a 2-1 victory over University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday.

The Thunder improved to 9-2-0 on the season while the Warhawks fell to 4-4-3.

The host Warhawks were dominant offensively in the first half and kept the pressure on as they outshot the Thunder 17-5 in the half. But it was Wheaton who scored first as Tyler Risma collected his third goal of the season, assisted by Drew Golz and Luke Partain.

The advantage held until early in the second half when Steve Nashleanas evened the score at 47:42. The second half played more even on both sides, and it was Wheaton who struck again at 82:38. Matt Swartz scored the game-winner unassisted for his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

The Thunder held off a late charge and a last second shot to secure the victory. Goalkeeper Ryan Seager made nine saves with one goal allowed to get the victory. Andrew Krueger took the loss while making one save.

Whitewater held a 22-9 shot advantage, including 10-3 in shots on goal.

The Thunder return to action at 7:00 PM on Wednesday with a home game against Augustana College.
