Women's Basketball falls to Illinois Wesleyan 79-47

Wheaton, Ill.
– The top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team used a first half run to pull away from the Wheaton College women's basketball team on Saturday in a 79-47 Titans victory in Wheaton's King Arena. Illinois Wesleyan led the Thunder 12-10 with 10:45 remaining in the first half, when the Titans used a 14-4 scoring run over a span of five minutes to extend the lead to 26-14. The run helped Illinois Wesleyan to a 40-20 lead at halftime, en route to the victory for the guests.

Today's loss snapped Wheaton's six-game winning streak as the Thunder is now 9-7 overall and 4-1 in CCIW play. Illinois Wesleyan now stands alone atop the CCIW standings with a 6-0 record in conference action and a 16-0 overall record. Illinois Wesleyan is ranked number-one in the WBCA/USAToday Division III Top-25 poll and ranked second in the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll.

Senior Kathleen Fidelia led Wheaton with a team-high 13 points. Sophomore Annie Bowen recorded her third “double-double” of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four steals. Senior center Whitney Edgecombe contributed eight points off the hosts' bench as she shot 4-for-5 from the field.

Kylie Castans led the Titans with a game-high 18 points off of the bench, adding six rebounds. Christina Solari recorded a game-high 18 rebounds, with six offensive boards and 12 points. Claire Sheehan scored 15 points, with four assists.

Wheaton posted a 28.8% (17-59) field goal percentage, with 1-for-14 from three-point range and 48% (12-25) at the free throw line. The Titans shot 41.7% (25-60) from the field, with 18.5% (5-27) from three-point range and 82.8% (24-29) at the charity stripe. The Titans out-rebounded the hosts 50-37, with a 10-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
