Chicago, Ill. - The top-ranked Thunder men's basketball team remained undefeated on Saturday night with a 93-74 win at North Park University. Wheaton is now 13-0 on the year and 2-0 in CCIW play. North Park is 8-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
The two teams played a tightly contested first half that saw the Thunder hold a two-point advantage at 35-33 at halftime. Wheaton scored the first eight points following halftime to take a 43-33 lead just 1:50 into the second half. The eight un-answered points was part of a 23-5 Wheaton run to open the second half as the guests owned a 58-38 lead with 13:50 remaining in the game. The Thunder maintained its commanding lead throughout the remainder of the second half, with Wheaton's biggest lead being a 26-point bulge at 89-63 with 3:10 remaining in the game.
Senior All-American Kent Raymond led all players with 32 points, draining four three-pointers, with three assists. Freshman Tim McCrary (PICTURED RIGHT) scored 14 second-half points en route to 18 points in the game. McCrary added nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards, with four blocked shots and three steals. Ben Panner scored 15 points in the game, including 11 points in the second half. Panner added four assists for the Thunder. Freshman guard Jeremy Pflederer shot 5-for-7 from the field as he scored 11 points and sophomore Andrew Jahns added eight points, with seven rebounds and four assists.
Roshawn Russell scored 23 points, with four assists to lead North Park. Clayton Cayhill contributed 16 points and Nick Williams scored 10 points, with eight rebounds.
Wheaton shot 55.2% (37-65) from the field, including 64.9% (24-37) in the second half. The Thunder made 38.5% (5-13) of its three-point attempts and shot 73.7% (14-19) at the free throw line. North Park shot a 45% (27-60) field goal percentage, with 35.3% (6-17) from three-point range and 66.7% (14-21) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 36-30, with a 15-13 edge on the offensive glass. North Park's 15 turnovers helped Wheaton out-score the Vikings 21-11 off of turnovers.
Wheaton will return home on Wednesday night for a 7:30 PM tipoff against seventh-ranked Augustana.
