Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's soccer team improved to 2-1 on the young season with a 3-1 victory at home on Friday night against Calvin College. The Thunder will return to action on Saturday night with a 7 PM match against Hope College at Joe Bean Stadium. Saturday's match will be broadcast on WETN radio and TV, with streaming video online at

Wheaton took an early 1-0 lead in tonight's match when freshman
Kenneth Feehs put in a well-placed header, off of a Mattt Swartz assist to score his first collegiate goal just 3:34 into the contest. Calvin's Scott Hooker got the ball past the Wheaton defense, off of a Michael Holwerda assist to tie the match at 1-1 at the 18:34 mark of the match. The score remained a 1-1 tie at halftime.

Ben Theimer broke the tie when he headed in a
Cory Weaver assist at the 64:23 mark of the contest. The hosts secured the victory when
Stephen Mesko darted downfield with ball and fed it to
Tyler Risma who scored his first goal of the year at 84:37 to give Wheaton the 3-1 lead that would become the final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Knights 20-12, with a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper
Micah Lamb made three saves and allowed one goal in the Thunder net. Calvin netminder Darrin Cline made five saves, with three goals allowed in the guests' net.
