COMPLETE TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball team opened the first day of action in its own Wheaton Invitational with a pair of victories on Friday. Wheaton (8-8) opened the Tournament with a 3-1 win against Cornell College (Iowa) and defeated Lakeland 3-0 in one of the final matches of the night. Wisconsin-Stevens Point was the other tournament participant to go 2-0 in the tournament's first day. The Thunder will face the Pointers at 10 AM on Saturday morning in one of three opening round matches to open the tournament's second day.
In the first round Wheaton topped Cornell 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18). Sophomore Ashlie Pace (PICTURED) led the Thunder with 13 kills and 34 service receptions on 35 attempts. Senior Lisa Jutsum contributed 12 kills, with 14 digs and three assisted blocks. Freshman Hannah Haskell recorded nine kills, Hannah McGinnis and Kelli Miller each tallied eight kills. Freshman setter Jenna McCallister distributed 40 assists, with 21 digs. (BOXSCORE)
The Thunder closed out Friday's play with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-17) victory against Lakeland. Pace led Wheaton with nine kills, 24 service receptions and 11 digs. Jutsum added five kills, with nine digs. McCallister recorded a team-high 22 assists, with 12 digs and three assisted blocks. McGinnis tallied six total blocks in the match. (BOXSCORE)
