Women's soccer shuts out Albion, 7-0

Freshman Ali Kopelman scored a goal and distributed an assist

Albion, Mich. – The Thunder women's soccer team earned a 7-0 victory at Albion College on Monday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Wheaton is now 5-1-1 on the season, while Albion is 2-5 overall. The Thunder will open conference play on Thursday night at Augustana College in a match that will be broadcast on WETN.

Freshman Ali Kopelman gave the guests a 1-0 lead when she scored on a Taryne Lee-assisted goal 17:26 into the match. Lee extended the Thunder lead to 2-0 less than a minute later when she scored her seventh goal of the season 18:19 into the match. Wheaton scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half to hold a 5-0 lead at halftime. The first of those three goals was scored by senior Kari Klynstra 31:14 into the match and then sophomore Mary Beth Grove scored her first collegiate goal at the 35:47 mark of the match. The third goal in the eight-minute span and fifth of the half was scored by Jami Herrmann and assisted by Kopelman at the 39:37 mark of the match.

Freshman MacKenzie Williams put the ball into the back of the net 66:15 into the match and Carrie Kishaba scored on a penalty kick 75:20 into the match to account for the 7-0 final score.

Wheaton out-shot the Britons 29-9, with an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Three Thunder goalkeepers played in net to combine for a shutout. Sophomore Ingrid Erickson played in net for the first half. Senior Karly Olson made four saves in 25:38 of action and Chase Pouns recorded a save in 19:22 of work.
