11th-ranked Thunder ties sixth-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 2-2

Wheaton, Ill. – In a battle of nationally ranked regional rivals, the Wheaton women's soccer team and Wisconsin-Eau Claire played to a 2-2 tie in two overtimes tonight at Wheaton's Joe Bean Stadium. The Blugolds (6-0-2) came into tonight's match ranked sixth in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll and Wheaton (4-1-1) is ranked 11th in the same poll.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire took a 1-0 advantage with a goal late in the first half as Liz Kooistra scored thanks to an Amy Smith assist at 39:34. The Blugolds' lead stood at halftime.

Wheaton scored the equalizer early into the second half when All-American Taryne Lee kept the Blugolds' defense off-balance to score her sixth goal of the year at the 49:10 mark of the match. Thunder freshman Ali Kopelman put the ball into the back of the net off of a Lee assist 56:47 into the contest to give Wheaton its first lead at 2-1. It was a lead that wouldn't hold as Smith scored 76:09 into the match for the Blugolds, off of an Allison Muer assist, to tie the match at 2-2. The contest was scoreless for the remainder of regulation and both 10-minute overtime periods.

Wheaton out-shot Wisconsin-Eau Claire 20-14 and the Thunder held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Ingrid Erickson made three saves and allowed two goals in 110:00 minutes of action. The Blugolds' netminder, Allie Rivard, made five saves and allowed two goals.
