Wheaton, Ill.
- The Wheaton College volleyball team defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College 3-0 in the Wheaton College Volleyball Five-Team Tournament on Saturday.

The Thunder dominated the match and won 25-13, 25-15, 25-10 to improve to 6-7 on the year. The Crusaders fell to 8-6 on the season.

The victory capped a 2-0 day at the tournament for Wheaton, who also defeated Kalamazoo College 3-1 earlier in the day.

The afternoon match was a looser affair for the Thunder. They had already warmed up with the morning match against the Hornets, and they were hitting on all cylinders against the Crusaders. The match finished with lightning speed as the three-set victory took only 58 minutes.

"I was very pleased with how aggressive we were and our discipline was much, much better," Wheaton coach Jennifer King Soderquist said. "It was a definite step up from this morning (against Kalamazoo)."

The Thunder looked comfortable in their home surroundings and improved to 3-0 at King Arena this season. The comfortability with the lighting and the air currents that run through the gym was a definite advantage for Soderquist's squad in the coach's mind.

Ashlie Pace did the most damage for Wheaton with a team-leading 11 kills and 12 digs. Kelli Miller and Hannah Haskell added seven kills each. Miller and Hannah McGinnis totalled four blocks apiece.

Setters Jenna McCallister and Lisa Jutsum tallied 17 and 13 assists, respectively. McCallister also registered 10 digs.

The Thunder will carry their four-match winning streak into Tuesday's home match against Illinois Wesleyan University. The match is scheduled for 7 PM at King Arena.
