Dubuque, Iowa - The Wheaton College women's soccer team had its 48-game win streak ended with a 1-0 loss to Loras College on Saturday.

The No.1 ranked Thunder fell to 3-1 on the season while the Duhawks improved to 4-1.

The Thunder's last defeat was a 2-1 loss to Augustana on September 23, 2006. Since that date, Wheaton won 48-straight games, including the 2006 and 2007 national championships.

Wheaton head coach Pete Felske (PICTURED LEFT) reflected on the accomplishment after the game. "Any time you have a streak like that, it speaks to the quality of your players and the quality of the program," Felske said. "We've accomplished a lot in that time, including some national championships. But I haven't thought a whole lot about the streak honestly."

The Thunder dictated much of the offense during the game and outshot Loras 21-9. Jaime Orewiler led the team with five shots, including four shots on goal. Kari Klynstra added four shots while Wheaton's leading scorer Taryne Lee missed the game with an injury.

Loras scored the game's lone tally at 79:57 in the second half on a goal by Dolly Duffy. Duhawks goalkeeper Torrey Murray made eight saves to preserve the win.

Wheaton goalkeeper Ingrid Erickson made three saves.

Felske said his players handled the loss like champions and their focus is on the season-long march for the postseason.

"We have 13 new players and 13 returning players," Felske said. "For half of our team, their win streak was just three games. So now we have to concentrate on starting a new streak."
