Carol Stream, Ill. – The Wheaton baseball team battled third-ranked Carthage College in a tightly contested 4-2 win by the Red Men on Monday under windy conditions at Legion Field. Carthage scored four runs, on six hits, with two errors and Wheaton scored two runs, on six hits, with four errors. Today's game was a re-scheduled contest that was originally slated to be played on March 28, but was postponed due to weather and Carthage served as the home team in today's game for that reason.

D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, is now 18-0 on the year and 8-0 in conference play. Wheaton falls to 12-8 overall and 2-5 in league action. The Thunder will host North Central on Wednesday afternoon at Legion Field. Wednesday's action will begin at 2 PM when the two teams resume their game from April 1 that was called due to darkness. That game will resume in the top of the ninth inning with Wheaton batting and the scored
tied at 8-8. Once that game is finished the two teams will play their regularly scheduled nine-inning contest that is slated to begin at approximately 3 PM.
Carthage jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning. Wheaton freshman
Danny Pyne led off the top of the third inning with a hit through the middle of the infield that he stretched into a double with aggressive base-running. Pyne's intelligent work on the base paths paid off when senior leftfielder
Luke Munch hit a two-out single to centerfield that brought the freshman home to cut the Red Men lead to 2-1.

Carthage increased its lead to 3-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning.
Dan Falvey hit a single to leftfield to lead off the top of the seventh inning and he scored two batters later on a Carthage miscue as Wheaton cut the Red Men lead to 3-2. Carthage scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and an apparent second run was waived off when Carthage's Ty Heegeman flied out to centerfield with one out and runners at second and third base. Both baserunners attempted to advance, however, Wheaton appealed that the Carthage baserunner did not tag-up at second base and he was ruled out to end the inning and the run from the base runner at third was waived off to account for the 4-3 Carthage lead that would become the final score.

Tim Urbanowicz (2-2) took the tough loss. Urbanowicz (PICTURED RIGHT) allowed four unearned runs, on five hits, with four walks and four strikeouts. Sophomore
John Little was solid in 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit, with one walk. Pyne's second double of the season was the only extra-base hit of the game as he went 2-for-4, with a run scored.
Carthage's Jacob Husing (4-0) earned the victory in seven innings of work. Husing allowed two runs, with one earned run, on six hits, with four walks and nine strikeouts. Mike Maher earned the save in two innings of scoreless relief, as he did not allow a hit, with one strikeout. Carthage centerfielder Boe Baitinger was 2-for-3, with two runs scored and a stolen base. Shortstop Seth Romano went 2-for-4 for the Red Men.
