Deerfield, Ill. - The Thunder men's tennis team opened its conference schedule on Friday with a 7-2 win over defending CCIW Champion, Carthage. Wheaton entered the match ranked 15th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region rankings and Carthage is ranked 16th in the same poll. Wheaton improves to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the CCIW, while Carthage is now 7-6 overall and 1-1 in league competition.
Thunder All-American Josh Williams, (PICTURED) ranked 18th in the ITA Central Region, earned a hard-fought win against fifth-ranked Miguel Yunes of Carthage, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 at number-one singles. Another key victory for the Thunder came at number-one doubles as Wheaton's pairing of Josh Williams and Justin Miller defeated Yunes and Sergio Lopez of Carthage, 8-6. Yunes and Lopez entered the match as the ninth-ranked doubles team in the region and Williams/Miller was the 13th-ranked doubles team.
