Orange, Calif. - The Thunder softball team earned a 3-2 win against Bellevue University in the bottom of the seventh inning at the Sun West Tournament on Friday. Wheaton scored three runs, on six hits, with one error, while Bellevue scored two runs, on eight hits, with three errors.
Wheaton took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Adrienne Munoz scored on a wild pitch and Sarah Callicutt (PICTURED) crossed the plate on a RBI-triple by Trinity Pierce. Bellevue tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning freshman Katie Iser hit a one-out double. She then stole second base and then a Bellevue error she advanced all the way to home and beat throw to the plate as Wheaton earned the 3-2 victory.
Callicutt was 2-for-3, with a run scored. Kelli Hennessey was 1-for-2, with a stolen base. Starting pitcher Kim Hegna tossed four innings, allowing one run, on four hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. Mandy Brockman was the winning pitcher as she allowed one run, on four hits, with three strikeouts.
