Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder women's basketball team lost a 53-48 decision to North Central on Saturday afternoon in King Arena. Wheaton closes out the season with a record of 12-13 and a mark of 4-10 in CCIW play.
North Central led the Thunder 25-22 at halftime of today's game. Wheaton opened the second half with an 11-2 scoring run to take a 33-27 lead with 16:00 left in the second half. However, the Thunder lead would be short-lived as North Central put together a 10-0 scoring run to hold a 37-33 lead with 10:40 left in regulation. The Cardinals never trailed for the remainder of the game.
Junior Kathleen Fidelia (PICTURED LEFT) led the Thunder with a game-high 25 points, three assists and two steals. Whitney Edgecombe scored six points, with seven rebounds. Senior Claire Glass (PICTURED RIGHT) scored six points, with two assists. Freshman Annie Bowen grabbed six rebounds. Today's game marked the final collegiate game for Wheaton's three seniors: Glass, Katie Heddell and Michelle Richard.
Megan McGuire and Barb Williams each led North Central with 13 points. McGuire grabbed seven rebounds and Williams collected six boards. Gia Navarra led all players with a game-high eight rebounds.
Wheaton shot 35.7% (20-56) from the field, with 70% (7-10) from the free throw line. The Cardinals posted a 46.5% (20-43) field goal percentage, with 75% (12-16) from the charity stripe. North Central out-rebounded the hosts 33-31, however, Wheaton held a 10-5 edge on the offensive glass as the Thunder out-scored the Cardinals 11-2 in second-chance points.
