Women's basketball is a 60-56 victor at North Park

The Thunder women's basketball team earned a 60-56 win at North Park University on Tuesday night. Wheaton improves to 12-12 overall and 4-9 in CCIW play with the win. The Thunder will close out the season on Saturday with a 2 PM tipoff against North Central in King Arena. Saturday's game will be broadcast on WETN-TV and WETN radio, with streaming audio and video on the internet at www.wetn.org. Wheaton never trailed in tonight's game as the Thunder jumped out to a 20-8 lead with 6:41 left in the first half. Wheaton held a 31-20 advantage at halftime. The Thunder led 49-37 with 9:00 left in the second half, when the Vikings put together an 11-5 run to cut the guests' advantage to just three points at 54-51 with 3:00 left in regulation. Wheaton shot 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final 2:20 of the game to secure the victory.

Junior Kathleen Fidelia (PICTURED ABOVE LEFT) led the Thunder with a team-high 16 points. The Thunder guard also collected 10 rebounds to tally a "double-double" and she distributed five assists and added two steals. Senior forward Claire Glass (PICTURED RIGHT) scored 10 points, with 10 rebounds to earn her second "double-double" of the year. Glass shot 8-for-8 at the free throw line, including 4-of-4 at the charity stripe in the final 2:20 of the game to help her team secure the victory. Jamie Jones (PICTURED LEFT) scored 10 points, with seven rebounds and she added two steals. Sophomore Sarah Jones added nine points, with five rebounds.

LaRae Kostreva led the Vikings with 23 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots. Andrea Perez added eight points for the hosts and Crissy Komperda collected seven rebounds, with six points.

Wheaton shot 35.8% (19-53) from the field, with 25% (2-8) from three-point range and 66.7% (20-30) at the free throw line. North Park posted a 30.8% (20-65) field goal percentage, with 15% (3-20) from behind the three-point arc and 81.3% (13-16) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 48-41, with an 18-17 edge on the offensive glass.
