Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College seniors Jesse Scott and Pete Ittersagen have each been recognized as 2008 All-Americans by D3Football.com. Ittersagen is a repeat selection to the D3football.com and Scott earns his first All-American selection. The Thunder posted an 11-3 record this season wtih the program's first-ever appearance in the Semifinals of the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs.
Earlier this month, Scott was named to the D3football.com First Team All-North Region team as an offensive tackle in addition to his selection as a First Team All-CCIW honoree earlier this year. He is a standout offensive lineman for a Thunder offense that racked up 5,699 yards of offense this season, averaging 407.1 yards per game. Wheaton averaged 166.4 rushing yards per game and put up 240.6 passing yards per game behind a line that is led by Scott. Wheaton finished the season ranked among the Division III leaders in scoring offense (22nd), total offense (35th) and passing offense (37th).
Ittersagen (PICTURED RIGHT) was named as a First Team All-American at cornerback and a Second Team pick as a kick returner. It marks the second consecutive season that Ittersagen was selected as an All-American at those positions by the website. Earlier this month Ittersagen was named as the North Region “Defensive Player of the Year” by D3football.com and was a First Team All-Region selection as both a cornerback and return specialist and he is a four-time All-CCIW honoree at cornerback.
At cornerback, Ittersagen recorded 65 total tackles this season, with 49 solo stops. He made three interceptions this season, with 12 passes broken-up. Ittersagen was a dominating force in the return game this season with 992 total return yards and three kicks/punts for touchdowns. He returned 25 punts for 464 yards, averaging 18.6 yards per return, with two touchdowns. He finished the season ranked second in Division III in yards per punt return. He also racked up 528 yards on 20 kick returns for an average of 26.4 yards per return with one touchdown.
With 61 career passes defended, Ittersagen is among the all-time Division III leaders in the category. Ittersagen returned a punt for a touchdown five times in his career, to hold Wheaton's career record for punts returned into the end zone. His recorded eight career returns for a touchdown in his career, with five punts, three interceptions returned for a touchdown and a kickoff returned for a TD. In his career, Ittersagen has 65 punts returns for 1,075 yards (16.5 YPR) and is Wheaton's career record-holder in punt return yardage.
