Third-ranked Wheaton defeats Loras 81-52

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College men's basketball team was an 81-52 victor at home on Tuesday night, in a re-match of last year's NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round, against Loras College. Wheaton is now 3-0 on the year, while Loras falls to 1-2. Wheaton will return to action on December 3 at University of Chicago.

Wheaton never trailed in tonight's contest against the Duhawks. The Thunder held a six-point advantage at 23-17 with 9:45 left in the first half when the hosts put together a 17-2 run to extend their lead to 40-19 with 2:55 left before halftime. Wheaton owned a 40-23 advantage at halftime. Wheaton's biggest lead of the night was a 33-point bulge at 81-48 with 1:32 left in contest.

All-American Kent Raymond led the Thunder with 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field, with three assists. Senior center Andy Wiele, a pre-season All-American, tallied his second “double-double” of the year with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Wiele shot 9-for-15 from the field, with three assists. Freshman forward Tim McCrary (PICTURED RIGHT) was 4-for-4 from the floor, with 12 points. He also collected six rebounds, distributed four assists and blocked three shots. Fellow rookie Jeremy Pflederer came off the bench to scored 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting, with a pair of three-pointers.

Brian Centella led Loras with 14 points and Ricky Kolze added 13 points for the guests. Jason Abbuhl and Alex Brant each grabbed five rebounds to lead the Duhawks on the glass.

Wheaton shot 56.9% (33-58) from the field, with 45.5% (5-11) from three-point range and a perfect 100% (10-10) at the free throw line. Loras shot a 37% (20-54) field goal percentage, with 15.8% (3-19) from three-point range and 64.3% (9-14) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the guests 35-27, with Loras holding a 9-7 edge on the offensive glass.
