Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team defeated Blackburn College 95-36 on Friday in the opening day of the Lee Pfund Classic. Wheaton will host Oglethorpe on Saturday at 3 PM in the championship game of the tournament. Oglethorpe defeated Grinnell 87-60 in the other game of the tournament.
Senior guard Lynnea Kvam led Wheaton with 17 points as she drained five three pointers and dished out four assists. Sophomore forward Annie Bowen scored 16 points, with seven rebounds. Senior Kathleen Fidelia scored 12 points, with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Sarah Jones scored 10 points, with eight rebounds. Senior center Whitney Edgecombe and sophomore Kelly Brooks each grabbed seven rebounds.
Natalia Gregory led Blackburn with 10 points and four rebounds.
Wheaton shot 44.2% (34-77) from the field, with 38.5% (10-26) from three-point range and 81% (17-21) at the free throw line. The Beavers shot 22.4% from the field, with 25% (5-20) from three point range and 55.6% (5-9) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the guests 68-25, with a 28-7 edge on the offensive glass.
