Decatur, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team picked up its eighth consecutive win on Wednesday with a 6-1 CCIW victory at Millikin University. Wheaton, ranked sixth in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25 poll, is now 12-1-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Thunder will be off until the squad travels to Carthage on October 15 to face the Lady Reds. Millikin is now 9-5 overall and 0-3 in CCIW competition.
A pair of Thunder goals that came less than two minutes apart gave the guests an early 2-0 lead in the match. Freshman Jaime Orewiler scored 13:13 into the match and fellow rookie Ali Kopelman scored off of an Orewiler assist at 14:51. All-American Taryne Lee extended the Thunder advantage to 3-0 when she scored at 21:33. Millikin's Allison Horne scored at 35:08 to cut the Wheaton advantage to 3-1. Wheaton's lead remained at 3-1 at halftime of the match.
Senior Kari Klynstra scored Wheaton's first goal of the second half to give the guests a 4-1 lead at the 61:43 mark of the match. Lee's second goal of the afternoon came at 63:54. Wheaton's final goal of the contest was off the foot of freshman Katelyn Kishkunas from a MacKenzie Williams assist at 70:41 to account for the 6-1 final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Big Blue 29-6, with a 3-2 edge for the Thunder in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Ingrid Erickson played 73:48 in the Thunder net, making three saves with one goal allowed. Senior Chase Pouns played 9:32 in the guests net and Justine Morey saw 6:40 of action. Millikin netminder Cristin Callis made nine saves and allowed six goals in 90 minutes of action.
