Wheaton, Ill. – The eighth-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team picked up its sixth consecutive victory on Friday night with a 7-0 win against Aurora University at Wheaton's Joe Bean Stadium. With the win Wheaton improves to 10-1-1 on the year, while Aurora falls to 8-4-0 overall. The Thunder will return to action on October 6 in a CCIW match at North Park University.
All-American Taryne Lee gave the Thunder an early 1-0 lead with her 12th goal of the season at the 5:43 mark of the match as she scored off of a Lauren Lindner assist. Freshman Jaime Orewiler extended Wheaton's lead with an unassisted goal at 19:04. The Thunder held a 2-0 edge at halftime.
A Maria Della Torre penalty kick at 55:07 extended Wheaton's lead to 3-0. Lee collected the 60th goal of her tremendous career at 61:42 when she scored off of a double-assist from Ali Kopelman and Della Torre. Della Torre's fourth goal of the year was scored at 74:09 off of a Kopelman and Katelyn Kishkunas double-assist to give Wheaton a 5-0 lead. Freshman Carrie Kishaba scored at 78:37 from a Kopleman assist and Kopelman scored off of a Laura Sutton assist at 83:11 to account for the 7-0 final score.
With her 60th career goal tonight, Lee (PICTURED RIGHT) becomes just the fourth player in Wheaton history to reach the milestone. She joins: Sarah Richardson (65), 2004-07; Jennifer Binger (70), 2002-05 and Rebecca Mouw (82), 1999-2002 on the school's 60-goal list.
Wheaton out-shot the Spartans 30-7 and the Thunder held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Ingrid Erickson played 73:05 in the Thunder net with two saves. Senior Karly Olson played 16:55 with one save for the Thunder. Aurora netminder Jenny Jarvis made eight saves, with seven goals allowed.
