Wheaton, Ill. --
Taryne Lee once again powered the Wheaton College women's soccer team to victory as the Thunder defeated North Central College 7-0 on Wednesday.
The junior forward scored three goals to help the Thunder improve to 15-3-1 overall and finish 5-2 in conference play. The Cardinals fell to 6-7-4 overall and 0-5-1 in conference.
In its final conference game of the regular season, Wheaton came out firing offensively. Lee opened the scoring only 2:37 into the match with a wide-open boot inside the goalie box off a nice cross from
Ali Kopelman.
Kari Klynstra upped the lead at 18:39 with an unassisted goal. Just 10 minutes later, Lee struck again off a
Laura Karsten free kick to make it 3-0.
Only three-and-half minutes elapsed when Lee made it a hat trick off another assist by Kopelman. Her three goals gives her 25 on the season, only two away from her school-record of 27 that she set last year.
Erin Hodina closed out the first-half scoring with her first goal of the season off a double assist from
MacKenzie Williams and
Brittany Bergh at 39:54.
North Central's defense held off the onslaught for much of the second half as Wheaton threw in their second unit and pulled all their starters. But at 76:32,
Carrie Kishaba scored to make it 6-0.
Kristen Clark and Hodina both got assists on the score.
Thunder head coach
Pete Felske unloaded his whole bench at the end as every player on the roster got onto the field. Even senior goalkeeper
Chase Pouns got into the action as she played some forward in the final minutes.
In her first season of collegiate soccer, Pouns earned an assist with 27 seconds left in the game on a Kishaba goal. It was the first career point for Pouns.
The Thunder outshot the Cardinals 35-3 in the game and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper
Ingrid Erickson got the win with one save in the first half of action. North Central goalie Elise Manzie allowed all seven goals while making 10 saves.
Wheaton wraps up its regular season with a 7:00 PM home game vs. DePauw University on Saturday.
