Women's soccer falls to Illinois Wesleyan, 2-1

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Today's loss to the Titans snapped Wheaton's string of 26 consecutive matches without a defeat on its home field. Wheaton is now 14-3-1 overall and 4-2 in CCIW play. Illinois Wesleyan improves to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in league action. The Thunder will host North Central on Wednesday night at 7 PM.

Illinois Wesleyan took an early 1-0 lead when Tori Samson scored an unassisted goal just 3:54 into the match. Wheaton scored an equalizer 9:23 into the match when senior co-captain Kari Klynstra scored on a cross from junior Maria Della Torre. The Titans regained the lead at 2-1 when Molly O'Brien's eighth goal of the year went into the back of the net at 11:56 off of a Caroline Leighton assist. Neither team scored over the final 32 minutes of the first half as the guests held a 2-1 advantage at halftime. The Thunder out-shot the Titans 9-1 in the second half, however neither team scored a goal following halftime as the guests emerged with the win.

Wheaton out-shot the Titans 19-8 in the match and the hosts held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Ingrid Erickson made two saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes in the Thunder net. Titan goalkeeper Alli Novak made eight saves and allowed one goal to lead her team to the win.
