Elmhurst, Ill. - The Wheaton College volleyball team split two matches at the first day of the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday.
The Thunder ran their record to 12-13 on the season.
Wheaton snapped its four-match losing streak by beating University of Wisconsin-River Falls 3-1. The Thunder took the first set 25-17, dropped the second set 16-25 and recovered to win the final two sets 25-19 and 25-15.
Sarah McWilliams and
Kelli Miller paced the offense with 10 kills each. Setter
Jenna McCallister tallied 37 assists, 12 digs and three aces.
Lisa Jutsum added eight kills, 14 digs and four blocks.
Ashlie Pace led the team with 16 digs.
In the second match vs. St. Norbert College, McWilliams led the offense again from outside with 14 kills on 33 attempts. But the Green Dragons took the match 3-1 (25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 25-19).
Jutsum added 12 kills and 15 digs while McCallister setup 40 assists to go with 15 digs. Pace led in digs again with 21.
Hannah Haskell contributed eight kills and 10 digs.
Wheaton continues action at the Elmhurst Invite on Saturday with games vs. Judson University at 10 AM and University of Chicago at Noon.
