Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College seniors Shane Woodward and Tim Ellingsen have each been recognized as a CCIW football “Player of the Week” for their efforts in Wheaton's 26-14 win at Augustana College last Saturday. Woodward was named the league's “Player of the Week” on defense and Ellingsen was the recipient of the award on special teams.

Woodward, a three-year starter at safety, made a team high six total tackles, all solo stops in Wheaton's win at Augustana on Saturday afternoon. He also intercepted a Viking pass with 3:32 left in the game when Augustana trailed 26-14. The team captain's interception forced an abrupt conclusion to the Vikings' final offensive drive of the game, allowing the Thunder offense to run the ball and take time off the clock for the closing minutes of the game to secure the Wheaton victory. Woodward and the Thunder defense held Augustana to just 45 yards of total offense in the second half, as the Thunder rallied from a 14-13 halftime deficit to earn the win.

This week's selection marks the second time in his career that Woodward has been recognized as a CCIW “Player of the Week” on defense. He also earned the award as a sophomore on October 1, 2006. Woodward has recorded 74 career tackles, with four tackles for lost yardage and four interceptions in his four seasons with the Thunder.

Ellingsen, a three-year starter as Wheaton's placekicker, booted a career-best four field goals on Saturday to help lead the Thunder to the win at Augustana. His four field goals is the most in a game by a Wheaton player since Paul Bohhms kicked four in a Wheaton win at Illinois Wesleyan in 1997. Ellingsen kicked a 47-yarder, a 40-yarder and he recorded two field goals of 21 yards. Ellingsen's 47-yard kick in the first quarter of the game cut Augustana's lead to 7-3 and was the longest field goal by a Wheaton kicker since Andrew Day booted a 48-yarder against North Central on October 2, 2004.

Ellingsen has kicked seven field goals this season, on nine attempts. He has scored 40 points this season to lead all CCIW kickers in points scored and he also leads the league in field goals. In his four seasons with the Thunder he has connected on 23 of his 32 field goal attempts. He has scored 186 points in his Thunder career, placing him in ninth place on Wheaton's all-time points list.
