Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's basketball team was an 80-37 victor at home on Tuesday night in a conference game against North Park (2-14/0-5). Wheaton improves to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in the CCIW. The Thunder will travel to Carthage on Saturday for a 2 PM tipoff against the Lady Reds. Saturday's game will be broadcast live from Kenosha on WETN radio, at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at
www.wetn.org.
North Park led the Thunder 12-10 with 13:00 left in the first half, when the hosts used a 13-2 run to take a 23-14 lead with 6:50 left in the opening half. Wheaton led 25-19 with 4:05 left in the first half when the Thunder put together a 16-1 scoring run to close out the half, as Wheaton led 41-20 at halftime. Wheaton scored the first 15 points of the second half to hold a 56-20 lead with 15:15 left in the game as the Thunder cruised to the victory.

Junior
Kathleen Fidelia led four Wheaton players who scored in double digits. Fidelia scored 13 points, with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Seniors
Claire Glass (PICTURED LEFT) and
Michelle Richard, along with junior
Jamie Jones (PICTURED RIGHT) each scored 10 points for the hosts.
Whitney Edgecombe and
Katie Heddell each added eight points. Freshman
Kelly Brooks collected a career-high 10 rebounds to lead all players; she added five points and two blocked shots. Thunder guard
Beth Masopust added six rebounds.
Sarah Jones dished out four assists, with four steals and Glass tied her for the team lead with four assists.
Stylianee Damianides led North Park with 15 points. Andrea Perez added nine points, with six rebounds.
Wheaton shot 41.8% (28-67) from the field, with 33.3% (3-9) from three-point range and 75% (21-28) at the free throw line. North Park posted a 23.5% (12-51) field goal percentage, with 70.6% (12-17) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the guests 54-31 and the Thunder held a 20-8 edge on the offensive glass that led to 17-3 advantage in second-chance points. The Vikings' 31 turnovers helped lead Wheaton to a 29-15 edge in points off of turnovers.
