Women's basketball falls at #18-Illinois Wesleyan

The Thunder women's basketball team dropped a 65-52 decision at Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Titans never trailed in today's contest and the hosts' biggest lead of the game was a 16-point advantage mid-way through the first half. With the loss Wheaton falls to 8-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Illinois Wesleyan, ranked 18th in this week's D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll,  is now 12-2 overall and 3-1 in CCIW action.

Freshman forward Annie Bowen (PICTURED) came off the Thunder bench to contribute career-highs of 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Sarah Jones scored eight points with with four rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Kathleen Fidelia scored eight points, with six assists and four rebounds. Junior Whitney Edgecombe added seven points.

Center Christina Solari led the Titans with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Solari shot 9-for-11 from the field and also blocked two shots. Claire Sheehan scored nine points for the hosts. Guards Sarah Bull and Mallory Heydorn each scored eight points, Bull added four assists.

Wheaton posted a 37.1% (23-62) field goal percentage, with 20% (3-15) from three-point range and 27.3% (3-11) at the free throw line. Illinois Wesleyan shot 42.6% (26-61) from the field, with 21.4% (6-28) from behind the three-point arc and 77.8% (7-9) at the charity stripe. The Titans held a 47-34 advantage in rebounding and a 16-13 edge on the offensive glass.

Wheaton will return to action on Tuesday night in a 7:30 PM tipoff against North Park in King Arena. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on WETN-TV, channel 72 on Wheaton-area cable outlets.
