Wheaton, Ill. – The top-ranked Thunder women's soccer team earned its 23rd consecutive victory in a 5-0 win against #23-Calvin College on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton is now 5-0-0 on the season and Calvin falls to 2-3-0.
Wheaton gained a 1-0 lead 8:28 into the match when sophomore Taryne Lee headed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season, off of a cross from Sarah Richardson. Richardson (PICTURED RIGHT) increased the Wheaton advantage to 2-0; 14:50 into the match as she utilized a Kira Davis assist. Wheaton's lead remained 2-0 at halftime of the match.
Senior Libby Passiales netted her third goal of the season; 58:23 into the match, off of a Kari Klynstra assist. Lee increased Wheaton's lead to 4-0 with a her second goal at the 64:20 mark of the match. Richardson and Passiales were credited with a double-assist on Lee's goal. Richardson scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season less than a minute later to extend Wheaton's lead to 5-0. Richardson's goal occurred 67:01 into the match, off of an assist from Klynstra.
Wheaton out-shot Calvin 19-1, with a 6-2 edge for the Thunder on corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Kristin Eggert started in the Thunder net and did not allow a goal in 72 minutes of action. Junior Justine Morey held the Knights scoreless in her 18 minutes of action in the net. Alyssa Bergman started the match in the net for Calvin and made one save in four minutes of action. Kayla Sulzer replaced the injured Bergman early into the match and made seven saves, with five goals allowed in 86 minutes of action.
