Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Thunder men's soccer team improved to 3-0-1 in the season with a 1-0 win at Calvin College (1-2-1) on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament. Wheaton's Jonathan Liechty broke a scoreless tie when he blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the goal to give Wheaton the 1-0 lead with 70:45 left in the match. Wheaton held on for the win in the match's final 19 minutes.
Each team took 13 shots and Calvin held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton's sophomore goalkeeper Micah Lamb recorded his second conscutive shutout by making six saves in the Wheaton net. Calvin netminder Darrin Cline made eight saves and allowed one goal.
Wheaton will return home on Wedneday with a match at 7 PM against Dominican University (Ill.). Wednesday's match against the Stars will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.
