Men's soccer emerges with a 1-0 win at Hope

Holland, Mich. - The Thunder men's soccer team improved to 2-0-1 on Friday with a 1-0 victory at Hope College. Sophomore Matt Swartz utilized a Strider Elass assist with eight minutes remaining in the the match to break a long-standing 0-0 tie. The goal was the third of the season for Swartz, a transfer from Creighton University.

Hope out-shot Wheaton 9-5, however, the Thunder held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Thunder sophomore goalkeeper Micah Lamb made five saves in recording his first collegiate shutout. Hope netminder Michael Amerman made one save and allowed the match's lone goal.

Wheaton will conclude its participation in the two-day Cal Bergsma Memorial Invitational with a match at Calvin College. Saturday's match begins at 2 PM (EDT) in Grand Rapids and will have updates broadcast on WETN during the radio station's broadcast of the Wheaton-Albion football game in Albion, Michigan.
